Unity Game Jam – 48-Hour Game Project (#49 Overall)

For the Unity Game Jam, I developed a complete game from scratch within a 48-hour time limit. The project challenged my ability to rapidly prototype, focus on scope, and make fast, informed design decisions under pressure. Out of all submitted games, mine placed #49 overall, which I’m very proud of given the time constraints and the highly competitive field.

The theme of the game jam was Timeless. An interesting theme as it can be perceived in so many ways.
For me it got me to the idea of “not about progress, but about presence”. Which led me to an idea of making a sandbox building game where you create your own little world where time doesn’t exist. No aging, no deadlines, no rush. So that’s how ‘Timeless world.’ was born.

Project Overview

  • Duration: 48 hours
  • Tools & Engine: Unity, v6000.2.8f1
  • Role: Solo developer (design, programming, art, audio, polish)
  • Result: Ranked #49 overall

What I Built

The game’s concept, mechanics, art style, and final polish were all created during the jam window. I focused on:

  • Designing clear and engaging core mechanics
  • Implementing efficient, modular systems under time pressure
  • Maintaining visual clarity with simple but expressive art
  • Prioritizing playability through rapid iteration and testing

Development Process

I documented the entire process in a devlog video, showcasing:

  • How I approached ideation and scoped the game
  • Key development challenges and creative problem-solving
  • Technical implementation details
  • The evolution of the gameplay throughout the jam
